Subaru Outback

The redesigned 2026 Subaru Outback is available exclusively with all-wheel drive and is available in six trim levels: Premium, Limited, Touring, Wilderness, Limited XT, and Touring XT. It offers a choice of two robust powertrains. Lower trims feature a standard naturally aspirated 2.5L engine, delivering 180 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft of torque. For enhanced performance in higher trims, an available 2.4L turbocharged engine boosts output to 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft of torque. Both engines are seamlessly paired with a responsive Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and Subaru's standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, ensuring confident handling in various conditions.

For 2026, the Subaru Outback Premium trim has a substantial array of standard features which include key exterior elements such as 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power liftgate, power heated side mirrors with turn signals, and a rear spoiler. The vehicle is equipped with a full suite of LED lighting, including auto-leveling, directionally adaptive headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights, and auto high-beams, along with remote-activated approach lighting and practical roof rails. Inside the cabin, occupants will find comfortable leatherette seating, with an 8-way power adjustable heated driver's seat that includes 2-way power lumbar support, and heated front passenger seats. The interior environment is further enhanced by automatic dual-zone climate control, front and rear center armrests, a leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and a locking illuminated glove box. The vehicle's technology and connectivity features are robust including a 12.1-inch touchscreen display for the 6-speaker AM/FM/HD/Satellite radio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a mobile hotspot. The driver is supported by a configurable 12.3-inch gauge cluster, adaptive cruise control with traffic stop-go, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Additional conveniences include push-button start, speed-sensing steering, four USB ports, three 12V DC power outlets, and front and rear vented disc brakes.

The Limited trim adds luxury touches such as leather-trimmed seats, heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, and a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The Touring trim represents peak luxury with Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.

The Wilderness trim focuses on off-roading with unique, rugged exterior styling, all-terrain tires on 17-inch matte black wheels, dual-function X-MODE with specialized settings for deep snow/mud, and water-resistant StarTex upholstery.

The Limited XT, and Touring XT combine the features of their respective non-XT trims with the more powerful turbocharged engine and larger 19-inch wheels.

What is considered the best trim really depends on your priorities: the Premium offers great value for daily driving, the Limited adds essential luxury, the Wilderness is built for off-road enthusiasts, and the Touring is the most luxurious option with the most advanced driver-assist features. The XT versions are for those who want a more powerful, turbocharged engine.

Every 2026 Subaru Outback comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of standard safety technologies designed to protect occupants and pedestrians alike. The baseline package features advanced collision mitigation for both the front and rear, active lane departure, and front pedestrian detection. To assist the driver in various environments, the Outback also includes blind spot warning, a driver attention monitor, and a suite of handling aids such as hill descent control, hill hold control, and an auto-hold braking function.

Higher trim levels enhance this foundation with sophisticated situational awareness tools and semi-autonomous aids. These premium safety upgrades include a 360-degree surround-view monitor for effortless maneuvering and front cross-traffic alerts to navigate blind intersections. Additionally, advanced trims utilize traffic sign recognition and an intelligent "auto curve slowdown" feature which uses navigation data to automatically adjust speed when approaching sharp turns.
