Subaru Ascent
The Subaru Ascent is powered by a 2.4L turbocharged flat-4-cylinder engine that makes 260 horsepower with 277 lb.-ft of torque, sending power to all four wheels via an 8-speed CVT variable ratio transmission. The resulting powertrain cuts a good balance between acceleration and fuel economy, while allowing the Ascent to tow up to 5,000 lbs. Subaru estimates that the base level Ascent will get around 26 mpg on the highway.
Five different trim levels are offered for the Ascent including Premium, Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring and Onyx Edition Touring. Standard features include 3-zone climate control, an 11.6-inch multimedia touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six USB ports, automatic power door locks, and 19- beverage holders.
The Premium trim features an 8-way power driver's seat, unique cloth upholstery, wireless phone connectivity, mobile hotspot, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, climate controls for the rear, heated door mirrors and front seats, and 18-inch black aluminum wheels, LED headlamps, daytime running lights, fog lights and brake lights; plus auto-leveling directionally adaptive headlights with auto high-beam, integrated mirror mounted turn signals, push-button start, and a power rear cargo liftgate.
The Limited trim adds leather upholstery, 20-inch aluminum machined wheels w/painted accents, and exterior chrome bodyside inserts.
Bronze Edition trim builds on the Limited trim, adding distinctive bronze-themed accents inside and out, which include 20-inch bronze finish alloy wheels, bronze stitching on interior upholstery, bronze exterior bits and black window moldings.
The top-of-the-line Touring model gets even more exterior chrome, java brown leather seating surfaces, wood grain trim, ventilated front seats, an integrated navigation system with voice activation, a sound system with 14 speakers, a panoramic moonroof, and a front view camera.
The Onyx Edition Touring trim is largely the same as the standard Touring model, but it distinguishes itself with exclusive styling elements. Key differences include the exterior trim pieces and badges, which are all finished in black for a more aggressive look. This black accent theme is also carried into the cabin, where the majority of the interior stitching is black as well.
Safety features across the line up include forward and rear collision mitigation, front pedestrian detection, driver attention alert, following distance alert, active lane departure, adaptive cruise control with traffic stop-go, blind spot warning, rear view camera, traction control, electronic stability control, trailer sway control, and seven airbags. Additional safety on higher trims also include driver attention alert with active monitoring and a surround-view camera system.
